Match Report 5-0 Win vs. Scunners

January 12, 2014

Much to our relief, the Scunners didn't cancel and actually showed up this afternoon, although we did have to loan them a player (thanks for volunteering, Travis). Their own 11th player showed up to play about 88 minutes into the match. Nevertheless, they played a spirited game against us and never gave up, challenging us aggressively on most balls and even getting a handful of offensive opportunities.

We were obviously rusty today skill and teamwork wise, and more than a bit out of shape, but had some very attractive periods of effective passing and good offense and defense. The score should have been much higher in our favor but we were unlucky on a number of occasions and Scunners did have have a new young keeper who played very well for them.

In the 13th minute, Ben gave a quick, short hand-off in the box to Ivan, who scored with a left-foot shot. No other goals were forthcoming until the 41st minute, when Steve put a nice cross from the right onto Ben, whose powerful close-range header ricocheted off the crossbar and out to Oto, who scored. Ben clearly gets credit for two assists on both of the first-half goals.

Compass was also slow to score again in the second half, but in the 51st minute, Cesar had a nice snap/scissors-like kick that put our third goal in. Four minutes later, Ben scored his first, followed by Oto's second goal in the 83rd minute. This left Compass with a 5-0 victory.

From what we experienced today, it is VERY important that you try and exercise this week. I would strongly recommend the Wed. night football, if you can make it. We will need everything we can get for our Sat. night (7:30) match vs. PE College.

Get ready, guys. This Saturday will be a very tough one!!
