Match Report: 5-3 Win vs. Taichung Tubbies

Sunday, May 17, 2009
Congratulations to Compass on their 5-3 defeat of Tubbies! Tubbies very obviously wanted the win and, if pre-game warm-up was any indication, seemed to think it would finally be their day. Tubbies had their entire 'A' Squad there--old guys and new guys alike. By comparison, Compass looked downright relaxed--at times perhaps too relaxed--and low-key most of the game, even when down 1-2 near the close of the first half. A few moments before the close of the period, Artem slipped the ball under Tubbies keeper, Gary, to score and end the half 2-2 (following Don Van Singel's header into the net in the first few minutes).

A congratulations goes to Hiroki for his first Compass goal in the second half, and a stunning one at that--a snap-around shot from about 20 meters off to the right side that totally caught the keeper flat-footed. Tubbies were given a rat of hope by their third goal (which evened the score) -- a strong shot from midfielder Rory. Compass soon responded with a fourth goal, and Benoit put the last nail in the Tubbies coffin, leaving a rather dispirited Tubbies side slinking off the pitch for yet another sullen post-game bender at 7-Eleven.

Truly, it was a great job by all, with everyone making good contributions on the pitch. A welcome to Chris (Hans' returning brother), who served us well in the net, but plays field, too. It was also nice to have prodigal son Ricky out there once again, perplexing Tubbies with the fancy footwork.
